PARRA POP UP SHOP
09 September 2009

As of August 27th the >Pool Gallery< (Tucholskystrasse 38) will bring to you Parra’s first ever Exhibition and Pop Up Shop in Germany. Parra, the 32-year-old Dutch illustrator and designer, playfully transformed the underground of Amsterdam with the help of bizarre graphics that span a broad range of themes, from introspective to audacious, facetious to bawdy. His work is instantly recognizable - a palette of bright, highly saturated primaries and pastels; vibrant hand-drawn text decorating, narrating and commenting on a fantastical world of voluptuous bird-headed men and women that convey a sense of sensuality. Growing up with his artist father, surrounded by Rubenesque paintings, he immersed himself in early nineties music and street culture, developing the unique style he‘s known for today. He taught his palette of skills to himself which resulted in his work being able to channel vintage forms, yet to maintain a decidedly modern, post-pop character and a distinctive hand-drawn fee appeal. The Exhibitions “I Like The Tee Shirt But I Will Get The Painting“ will run until October 10th.
