HENRIK VIBSKOV

>Henrik Vibskov< after graduating from the prestigious Central St Martin's College of Art and Design in London, started to interwine a diverse selection of creative fields. He showed his innovative fashion designs in Paris, he exhibited his artwork at PS1, MoMA, the Palais de Tokio and MU, and made musical collaborations with the likes of Anders Trentemøller and Mikael Simpson. However for Vibskov, these seemingly different creative realms are not separate - it is intrinsic to his philosophy that they blend together, resulting in an all-inclusive Henrik Vibskov experience. The exhibition "Graphic Works" displayed at the >Pool Gallery< presents a selection of his two-dimensional pieces, exhibited alongside installation and knit-works. With colorful and organic shapes that seem like strange, animated beings, Vibskov's minimalistic "form-language" and "anarchistic lines" offer a glimpse at his own imagined universe. His experience with design, textile and pattern certainly shines through, resulting in a collection of works that keeps with his philosophy. Vernissage on 5th February. The exhibition runs till 6th March. [© Henrik Vibskov]

transmediale.10

FUTURITY NOW! is the 10th Festival of Art and Digital Culture and runs from 2nd – 7th February at the >Haus der Kulturen der Welt< with an assortment of conferences, workshops, screenings, performances and exhibitions. The festival is based on the long term effects of our cross-medial society and confronts the prophesised utopias for the 21st century and asks: Are we already there? Here are a few highlights from the festival this year: 1,500 artists entered to win the “Transmediale Award”; which was eventually whittled down to nine. The works confront the challenges of our new digital age with snapshots of our modern world and new prophecies for the future – the experimental works are captivating and though provoking. Yvette Mattern will be shining a rainbow over the Berlin night sky from the HKW right through to the Fernsehturm, connecting two prominent buildings that were once divided by the wall. The rainbow represents unity, diversity and hope for the future. The >transmediale.10< Salon is where the talks, projects and workshops will be held with the aim to develop a future strategy for a “global network age”. Open activities, installations, combined with the talks, and projects will be running throughout the festival. A fascinating, must-see festival. MICHAEL SONTAG
30 January 2010

On his second show at Bebel Platz, after the S/S presentation in July, the designer >Michael Sontag< has been acclaimed by the public and critics alike with his A/W collection on the occasion of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The berliner designer does things his way: original cuts, clever combination of silk, cashmere and wool and fresh designs. Designs which are never drawn, but come to life on mannequins through drapery. A new talent for the German Fashion.  [© Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week]

STINE GOYA
29 January 2010

>Stine Goya< finally took her elegant, neo-classical garments to Bebel Platz during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on saturday 23rd. Her AW10/11 collection offers a delightful bright color palette with great gradient patterns; loose shirts, jumpsuits and dresses in bold colors are the trademarks of the Danish designer who has to be considered one the next big names of the Scandinavian fashion. To be remarked: the glitter-glamour make-up, a winning detail. [© Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week]

VLADIMIR KARALEEV
27 January 2010

It's 8p.m. It's the 20th of january. After the first shows at the Bebelplatz tent, >Vladimir Karaleev<'s performance at WMF studios is an enormous relief. The models stand still among a few white structures, not staring, but not slack either. The stillness means you can take a proper look at the clothes: volumes of folds like tailored rooster's wattles; frayed edges,; layers of sheerness and density. Karaleev's are clothes for their own sake. "Pro Forma" is the heading of a presentation of the clothes meant to be "neither functional nor decorative". [© Adrian Parvulescu]

SIX DAYS of NEW MEDIA
26 January 2010
|

For six days there will be six shows in Linienstrasse 127 presenting Berlin based artists whose working-processes can be aligned with six different media. Every evening there will be a new opening and every evening another medium will be presented. On the 26th of January the exhibition will start with Photography, followed by Film/Video, Drawing, Sculpture/Installation, Painting and will close with Sound/Performance on the 31st of January. The potential for dialogue within each medium will act as an interdisciplinary transmitter. The individual medium is understood as a highly affine language, in which an idea can be intrinsically realized, and not only as a formal category. >SIX DAYS OF NEW MEDIA< wants to set off the potential boundlessness of the conscious debate, against the schematization of the artistic practice and let them compete openly against each other. Through the quick change of the respective exhibitions, each will only be installed for one evening, the overall dialogue, which each artistic practice engages in with its environment of production and participants, will be highlighted.

ANDREAS MÜHE
21 January 2010

The gallery ›Camera Work‹ presents works from highly acclaimed photographer Andreas Mühe. F.C. Gundlach is a firm supporter of Mühe’s extraordinary consistency and praises his quick rise to becoming a world class photographer. The individuality of his subjects shines through in his photographs due to the carefully planned interplay of light and the often overwhelming landscapes and architecture Mühe selects for his muses. His photographs can be described as romantic, mystical, occasionally hard-hitting and burying a deep secret – with an intimacy and honesty like no other. The exhibition runs from January 23rd – March 6th. Fire is the theme of another exhibition from ten internationally renowned photographers: Peter Brüchmann, Friedhelm von Estorff, Thomas Erhart, Andy Kainia, Peter Lorenz, Sheryl Nields, Petra Niemeyer, Gerrit starczewsky, Donata Wenders and Günter Zint. Fire conjures up burning passion and red hot emotion and has been a beloved subject of photographers the world over. The exhibition connects the swinging sixties in London with today’s fiery underground scene. Location: >Seven Star Gallery<. The opening is tonight! Helle Mardahl is a Danish artist of epic proportions. Her way of combining opulent materials and structures from haute couture and graphic design has made her into one of the most acclaimed Scandinavian talents in fashion, art and design. Mardahl’s avant-garde style and ability to blur reality and fantasy are a reflection of her eclectic, deeply profound and emotional artistic flair. Her current solo exhibition “Stage Power” runs from January 20th – March 6th at >Circleculture Gallery< and consists of a series of individual works made from various materials and techniques that come together to produce one coherent installation.
